Online MBA Advice for New Students

Online MBA Advice for New Students

The JWMI community of faculty, staff, students, and alumni are excited to welcome our spring 2020 class of students to the Jack Welch MBA program. While the Covid-19 pandemic has made for uncertain times, there is one thing that is certain—JWMI’s commitment to student success.

As a pioneer of the 100% online and mobile MBA experience, the Jack Welch Management Institute has worked diligently over the past decade to ensure that students have the tools, support, and MBA advice to make their online MBA experience meaningful and successful. One of the biggest myths about online education is that it is a solitary one. A “fact” that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Jack Welch famously said:

Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.

So, true to Jack’s mission of teamwork and JWMI’s values, the Jack Welch MBA alumni shared the following MBA advice for new students embarking on their first term. It should come as no surprise that it involved building a network and community.

JWMI Connect

JWMI LinkedIn Networking Group

“Never turn down an opportunity to network. Within the virtual environment, it’s critical to think of each student in your class as an extension of your network. Through this practice, it’s easy then to cultivate relationships and expand your network. I recommend connecting with classmates through LinkedIn. I also recommend attending the virtual webinar sessions held each quarter that are hosted by the Dean of Students, Suzy Welch, and more. It’s an excellent opportunity to listen to new ideas and hear real-life advice.”
Zachary Aman, Business Analyst at LinkVisum Consulting Group

Connect with Your Faculty

“The JWMI faculty members still serve as mentors to me. My professors were always accessible and approachable, gave great feedback, and broke down the courses in ways that I could apply to my job. The faculty and staff really put students first and understand the demands of attending school as a working professional.”
Jack Nolan, Account Manager, DeanHouston, Inc.

Take Advantage of Resources

“The JWMI professors, deans, and staff are eager to support you and want you to succeed. Also, there are numerous resources like your advisor, communication coaches, and other online resources that ease the anxiety of going back to school. Utilize them!”
Megan Broude, Vice President, Market Operations at Agilon Health

Get Your Family & Friends Onboard

“You are not alone on this journey! In addition to the JWMI community, your family, friends, and employer are critical supporting actors in your JWMI MBA journey. Communicate openly and frequently with them seeking their support along the way.”
Kevin Blanchard, Chief Information Officer at SVP Worldwide
