TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR COMPANY.

Armstrong World Industries provides ceiling system solutions which provide acoustical and, thermal comfort along with an aesthetic appeal for commercial and residential buildings. I manage a sales team of acoustical and thermal comfort consultants in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. We leverage product knowledge and specification expertise to drive sales of sustainable radiant heating and cooling ceiling systems that utilize minimal air ventilation requirements.

HOW HAS THE JWMI CURRICULUM HELPED YOU IN YOUR CAREER?

The JWMI curriculum has enhanced my business acumen and has led to two of what I hope will be many more promotions. When I began my JWMI Journey in July of 2017, I was the Assistant Area Sales Manager for Armstrong’s Mid-Atlantic Region. In just 16 months, I received a promotion to National Sales Manager for Exposed Structure Ceiling Solutions. Eleven months after that, I received my second promotion to Senior Sales Manager, Radiant Solutions.

WHY WERE YOU LOOKING TO GET AN MBA?

Obtaining the MBA has been a goal that I set almost 30 years ago. I knew that having an advanced degree could boost my career and open new doors, but life and career deferred my dream. I saw an ad for JWMI on a friend’s LinkedIn page and thought, now is the time.

DID YOU FIND THE CURRICULUM WAS IMMEDIATELY APPLICABLE?

The JWMI classes were extremely relevant. As Jack stated, what I learned in class, I could immediately apply in my career the very next day. Not only was I able to showcase my new learnings, but I was able to teach others these skills as well. Specifically, the people management skills that I learned in class helped me to become a better and more effective manager. I continually strive to cultivate my team and make them more productive employees benefitting Armstrong World Industries.

LOOKING BACK AT WHAT YOU THOUGHT ABOUT AN ONLINE PROGRAM WHEN YOU FIRST EMBARKED, WHAT WAS YOUR OVERALL IMPRESSION NOW? DID IT MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS?

The online MBA experience fit my life and career perfectly. I would have never attempted to earn my MBA if I had to sit in a classroom every week or take time off from my job to attend classes. The JWMI experience exceeded my expectations. The professors are engaging. The books, articles, assignments, and discussion questions are relevant and interesting. But perhaps the most notable are the resources in place to help you succeed, I am thankful for the caring and engaged advisors who guided me along the way.

HOW DID YOU NAVIGATE JOB, FAMILY, AND WORK? WHAT STRATEGIES DID YOU IMPLEMENT TO GET IT DONE?

In addition to the time that I dedicate to my Jack Welch MBA and my career, I have an additional commitment to my town and county as President of the Youth Basketball League. Juggling those activities and being a husband and father of six (6) children takes a little organization. I find that keeping my Outlook calendar updated for business, educational, and family events help to keep my daily activities organized.

PLEASE SHARE ANY ADVICE FOR NEW STUDENTS EMBARKING ON THE MBA JOURNEY.

Be prepared to be challenged. Through adversity comes accomplishment and confidence. As the age-old adage states, “plan your work and then work your plan.” I recommend that students establish a strategy that focusses on reading the required materials and then completing the discussion questions early in the week. Once that is complete, engage the professor and your classmates and challenge their discussion responses. The more people you engage, the more your knowledge and confidence in the subject matter will improve. Don’t be afraid to question what you do not understand. Finally build a relationship with your professors, academic coaches, advisors, and classmates to develop your subject matter expertise and expand your business network. JWMI has a formula that will make you a winner.
