Senior VP of Global Business – Homecare
Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR ROLE AT DRIVE DEVILBISS HEALTHCARE.
Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare manufactures and distributes homecare medical equipment—everything from wheelchairs and walkers to hospital beds and oxygen devices. My responsibilities include full P&L and product management for our portfolio of Homecare equipment. Due to a recent leadership change, I am also handling our Planning, Procurement, Sourcing, and Logistics teams—an opportunity that would not have been possible without my JWMI education.
WHY WERE YOU LOOKING TO GET AN MBA?
Before JWMI, I spent the majority of my career in various sales leadership roles. My intention in pursuing my MBA was to diversify my knowledge and skills so that I could add value to an organization in all areas to avoid becoming typecast as only a sales leader. I believe the single most important investment in life is that of continued investment in your education. My goal was to emerge from the MBA program with the confidence to be an active participant in my company’s strategy and board meetings, rather than an unsure bystander. JWMI has exceeded my expectations in helping me achieve this goal.
HOW HAS THE JWMI CURRICULUM HELPED YOU IN YOUR CAREER?
Shortly after my MBA journey began, my company formed two strategic business units; I was asked to run one of them. The initiative I showed to continue my education and round out my business acumen at JWMI helped me in part to earn this promotion. Transitioning from a sales and customer service leadership role to full P&L responsibility for a global business unit would not have been possible without the JWMI curriculum and support from my professors and classmates.
DID YOU FIND THE CURRICULUM WAS IMMEDIATELY APPLICABLE?
At a leadership event held by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, I had the great fortune to find myself in a life-changing conversation with Jack Welch during the cocktail reception. I had expressed my interest in pursuing my MBA, not knowing that JWMI existed. Jack explained how JWMI was designed with a “Learn it on Monday, Apply it on Tuesday” philosophy and how the program was tailored specifically for busy executives. The curriculum at JWMI was even more applicable in my career than I envisioned, and the sequence in which it built on prior learnings was well organized and effective for learning. So that, no matter if I was taking Leadership, Finance, Strategy, Marketing, or any other course, I was able to connect the learning objective within my day-to-day business life.
WHAT’S BEEN YOUR MOST REWARDING EXPERIENCE IN THE PROGRAM?
I genuinely believe JWMI has helped me become a better version of myself. In two short years, I see the business through a completely different lens, can add value to my organization in ways that I never imagined, and have been afforded opportunities that would not have been possible before JWMI. The unexpected reward has come from the people at Jack Welch MBA, both the faculty and my fellow students. I have been blown away with the support and encouragement from my professors and classmates throughout my journey. I can’t say enough about how positive this experience has been and how much it has exceeded my expectations!
